For the second year running Hambledon Vineyard’s English sparkling wine has been chosen by Atlas Helicopters to be served exclusively in our VIP arrivals lounge at Silverstone during the Formula One® British Grand Prix.

Not only is this sparkling wine winning awards across Europe, and beating most of its established continental cousins, but it has also become a firm favourite with our clientele. Once sipped there is instant recognition that this is something special.

“Our attention to detail means that every aspect of a flight has to be perfect,” said Atlas Helicopters’ General Manager Alana Burns. “We knew last year that this English sparkling wine was an excellent addition but we didn’t know how our clients would react. We have been pleasantly surprised by how popular it has become.”

Supplier Becomes Flyer Again

The sparkling wine is supplied by Fareham Wine Cellar and director Roy Gillingham was at Hambledon to present the cases and also inspect the aircraft.

“To have such a successful vineyard on our doorstep is a major boost for the area and the county. The chalk of Hampshire is the same seam that runs through the Champagne region and to have this wine beating their competitors in blind tastings, which include far more expensive Champagnes, is a tremendous credit to the team at Hambledon.”

Roy is no stranger to flying by helicopter although the last time was under different circumstances.

“My previous experience of a helicopter flight was in active combat many years ago when I was an engineer in the Royal Navy” he said. “Even though you were doing your duty then, I much prefer flying across the South Downs countryside, on a beautiful spring day, in such a magnificent aircraft.”

Praise heaped on Hambledon Vineyard

For the winemakers and management of Hambledon Vineyard this is another stamp of approval in a rapidly filling book.

“Over the past year we’ve really enjoyed the business relationship we’ve developed with Atlas Helicopters,” said Phillip Kellett, Hambledon’s Operations Manager. “From our sparkling wine being introduced to their Silverstone VIP clientele and then the vineyard added to their connoisseur tour, it is a real boost for our hard working staff to see such professional organisation have faith in our produce.”

There will be two types of English sparkling wine served by Atlas Helicopters – Hambledon Classic Cuvée and Classic Cuvée Rosé.

If you would like to try before you fly, both are available from Hambledon Vineyard or Fareham Wine Cellar.
