Addicted to Goodwood Festival of Speed
For many years, the Festival of Speed at Goodwood has been a staple event in the calendar for all motoring enthusiasts, from antique motorcycles to the newest, fastest Formula One cars, there’s something there for you no matter what your passion.
This year, the theme of the Festival was “Addicted to Winning” and celebrated all the legendary champions of motorsport both past and present. Many professional drivers, retired and current, and celebrities frequent the Festival every year, as it celebrates all the best things about motoring and the cars we drive.
The Moving Motors event, which runs at the beginning of the Festival, is designed to put the general public in touch with some of the most exciting cars available. It involves the newest models from most manufacturers, which people can see up close and even take for a test drive around the track on the Goodwood estate.
The main Festival runs Friday through Sunday and includes the famous Hillclimb event. First held in 1993 when racing enthusiast Lord March took over the estate, it has been massively popular ever since and a true staple of the Festival of Speed weekend, and remains one of the biggest points which draw people to Goodwood time and time again.
The Festival is really all about getting enthusiasts to interact with the cars the drivers. Far from normal racing events which tend towards separation via fences and barriers to prevent accidents, at Goodwood people are right up close with the action, getting to participate by driving the cars themselves and watch the veterans of motorsport at close quarters as they perform spectacular displays and one-of-a-kind racing spectacles.
To be sure, for any motoring fan, this annual event at Goodwood is certainly not to be missed.
